while the exact mechanism for biexponential transformation remains a mystery (patent, Parks pdf, herzenberg PDF), Jay and I rigged FlowJo 7.5 to spit out a sequence of images, varying the variables of negative decades and width basis over a fixed range. interesting results.. can be used to illustrate the purpose of this visualization.

In both cases I'm looking PerCP-Cy5.5 labeled anti-CD4 on X, and APC labeled anti-CD8 on Y, FCS3 file from a FACSCanto machine:
