in lieu of mixing this long winded rant with today's beta fixes, I'm putting it in this post.
To achieve better scaling for Astrios and MoFlo data, we had to mess with preferences, and Engine code. A full preference reset is recommended before this beta is used, specifically ensuring that the list of cytometers goes down to just "Generic" (else exit FJ and manually delete prefs file.)
Once that is done, here's the expected behavior for this data in the above betas:
1) load astrios sample, and plot it:
or alternatively,
1) load moflo sample and plot it:
as you can see the number of operations was reduced somewhat.
</smugness>
I am aware that compensated FL parameters in these data will come out transformed, regardless of preferences. Somewhere there is a broken link between comp-editor and those prefs, and I have not yet had time to work on that. You may see plots like these:
in which case you can return to normal looking data quickly by pressing T button -> Log scale. Plot above becomes:

pre vX users are out of luck, then? I've never been able to find a manual scale option.

Joe,
Pre- Vx users would have to use derived parameters to achieve the same rescale.
In Version 9 specifically, derived parameters can be attached to a template, so that would be one workaround. Though I hear the scuttlebutt is that V9 may get an overhaul wrt data scaling, a long overdue one since the last time we did data things to it was when BD files went FCS3.0 :O
