64 bit flowjo, XDP data

news on the 7.6 front: 

we successfully opened a 2.18GB file generated by DIVA in the 7.6 version of FJ, compiled in 64 bit already, since we made it available for the mac. I just never got a file big enough to test that it's really 64 bitty. :)

The real test of course would be to open 1TB of 2.18B files. And batch. :)

The latest 7.6 build also supports XDP data, which uses the full 32 bit (4 billion) channel range. 

CDW registrations still open

I'm getting ready for my presentations @CDW this year (we've had a busy year with a lot of ideas, after all :) ). DD will probably not update for a few days next week. TreeStar supports and attends CDW every year, we bring in both the apsci and engineering staff to maximize interaction with other developers. And what's not to like about Pacific Grove, California!

2GB is the max (for now)

The PC and Mac versions have slightly different approach to memory management, but neither build can allocate more than ~1.4GB RAM, and neither can open an FCS file in excess of 2GB.

We were recently notified that FlowJo gives a "illegal file" warning on legal data deriving from DiVa files which can get up to 2.18GB in size. That will be addressed in upcoming V9 for Mac release.

While we work on overcoming this limitation, we recommend not to exceed 2GB data for the Mac version, and about half that for the PC.

Since this is tied in with the question "when is flowjo going to get to 64 bit", the answer is "we're looking into it." Stay tuned.

Someone in Germany is looking for an Aria - their email is in the bottom comment of the post linked above.    

CFlow / Accuri fix only valid for old version of CFlow..

It looks like our recently implemented support for the MaxUsefulDNAChannel keyword, won't work with data from current/future versions of CFlow.

For best results with FlowJo, use the older versions of CFlow which still write out this keyword. If your data derives from newer versions of CFlow, our recommendation is to use Derived Parameters and/or the Accuri log decades preferences we've previously implemented.

FlowJo 9.0 beta

Beta fixes:

- NxN UI in LE has better parameter selection interface
- Editing a acquistion-defined comp matrix does not confirm change for every sample

New pref: Ignore FCS3.0 data segment if dual FCS2.0/FCS3.0 data file (like CXP). Default is to read it. This is to address recent reports of different orders of keywords in FCS2/3 segments of the file. 

Beta expires mid-December.
